Literacy Program – Khordha, Odisha

Promoting Financial Inclusion, Skill Development, and Women Empowerment

In Khordha’s bustling urban slum communities, the Literacy Program has emerged as a transformative force, addressing the pressing need for education, financial literacy, and skill development among women. Designed to empower marginalized women, the program focused on equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to achieve financial independence and take on leadership roles within their communities.

Key Highlights and Outcomes:
  • 500 Women Engaged: Women from various urban slum areas participated in literacy and skill-building sessions, gaining not only critical life skills but also a renewed sense of confidence and purpose.
  • 250 Women inancially Included: The program facilitated access to formal banking services for these women, many of whom were previously excluded from the financial system. Workshops on financial management provided them with the knowledge to manage their finances effectively and make informed economic decisions.
  • 200 Women Skilled: Participants received training in diverse skills, including tailoring, handicrafts, and basic digital literacy. Out of these, 120 women successfully launched their own microenterprises, generating income and contributing to the local economy.
  • Community Leaders Emerging: The program encouraged women to take on leadership roles, with 50 participants now actively involved in community decision-making processes. These leaders have become role models, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and driving social change within their neighborhoods.

The Literacy Program has not only uplifted individual lives but also strengthened the social fabric of these communities. By promoting education, financial inclusion, and skill development, the initiative has paved the way for a more equitable and empowered society.
